How to Set Up Your Flex Aware - Part 1

Install Batteries

We recommend setting up a notification and testing it before installing the Flex Aware.

Step 1. Remove the battery door cover and insert the included AA batteries into your Flex Aware

Step 2. Wait 60 seconds for your device to boot up before proceeding to the next step

Rename Your Device

We recommend renaming your devices with clear, specific names—so you instantly know what a notification means. For example: “Flex Aware 1” is less descriptive than “Backyard Pool Gate”. This allows you to easily identify which sensor or device triggered a notification, e.g. "Backyard Pool Gate was Opened at 4:53pm on Tuesday, April 19th."

For more details, and desktop app instructions for renaming your device, please see How to Rename a Sensor or Mobile Device.

Step 3. Tap Manage Devices

Step 4. Tap the ••• icon next to the device you want to rename

Step 5. Tap Rename Device

Step 6. Rename the device with a descriptive name that you can reference easily

Step 7. Tap OK

Add Your Flex Aware to a Notification

Step 1. Log in to the All Aware app on your mobile device

Step 2. Tap the More icon in the bottom right

Step 3. Tap Notifications

Step 4. Tap Add New Notification

Step 5. Tap Sensor Activity

Step 6. Add preferences:

  • Select all devices you would like to notify you of sensor activity.
  • This option allows you to choose whether to receive the notification at all times or only in certain time frames.
  • This option lets you pause sensor activity notifications for a set time, like 5 minutes, after the last alert to avoid getting too many messages at once.
  • This option lets you stop sensor activity notifications when selected geo-devices (e.g. your mobile device) are inside the selected geofence, so you don't get alerts for normal activity in those zones.

Step 7. Choose Recipients

Tap + Add and select the recipient and notification type: email, SMS, or push.

If a contact is not listed: Tap + Add Contact and enter the new contact's information to add a new Address Book entry. You can then save and select this contact as a notification recipient.

Step 8. Tap Close on the contact window

Step 9. (Optional) Scroll to the top of the page and rename your notification (default: "Sensor Activity")

Step 10. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Save

Test Your Notification

Step 1. Open and close the magnet on the top left side of the device.

Step 2. Verify that the LED on the device flashes yellow twice and that you receive a push notification on your mobile device.

Step 3. Once you have verified your notification is working, proceed to the next article.
